Prada served up a low-key collection today in Milan, one devoid of shock factor but beautiful all the same. Soft, tactile fabrics, slick tailoring and a muted colour palette were  all present; a refined take on Spring Summer from the profitable pairing that is Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons.

But there was some drama on the beauty front: a giant, curtain lash that acted as a veil across each model’s eye. Crafted by pat McGrath, the lash was long, heavy and larger than life. Instead of sweeping up towards the brow, it was positioned at a right angle, casting a heavy set shadow across the tops of the cheeks. Paired with clean skin (a McGrath signature) and a neutral lip, it was the perfect contrast against some of the softer fabrics (lace, mohair and chiffon).

Hair was less of a moment but still incredibly beautiful: natural movement, a touch of texture, healthy shine but not so much that it looked too ‘done’. it follows suit a bunch of other shows who have leant into natural texture this season, with bangs and creative colour for interest.

So what does this mean for mainstream beauty? For one, it’s inspired us to play with false lashes again! It might also herald the return of long, chunky, unreal lashes — one that looks fake but in the best possible way. While McGrath’s version is a little costume-like for every day, we love a look like commands attention.
