More than 2,000 people have joined a group to share their nightmare experiences of a Hull beauty company alleged to have given women botched treatments.

Coco Couture Hair Extensions & Beauty was accused when one woman, who lost her hair to chemotherapy after a breast cancer diagnosis, faced having to spend £600 on having her hair re-done following terrible extensions she had fitted.

The nurse was devastated when her dream hair turned out looking like a mullet after the technician failed to fit hair strands around the top of her head.

Another customer previously spoke last year of how her hair extension bonds were so badly fitted, they left her scalp in pain with the hair coming out in clumps. At the time, the business owners claimed the complaints were "blown out of proportion" and denied any wrongdoing.

Now hundreds of women in the city and further afield have been joining a Facebook group sharing their own experiences of the Hull-based company.

The nurse who had her extensions fitted earlier this month said the company actually operates from one of the owners' flats.

The Facebook group, named 'Hair disaster by Coco Couture Hair Extensions & Beauty, Hull', has amassed more than 2,400 members, many of whom claim they have paid for terrible hair and lash treatments.

Pictures show amateurish eyelash extensions and messy manes from poor-quality hair extensions which cost up to £300 to have fitted.

One woman, who claimed she had a bad set of eyelashes fitted, told Hull Live her treatment had been "absolutely appalling" so she posted a picture in the group, only for it be shared hundreds of times.

"I realised this was a much bigger thing," she said.

Other members of the group have told how they reached out to one of the company's owners to complain, only to be met with foul language.

Coco Couture, who have declined to comment on the story but have previously claimed people's experiences were "blown out of proportion", is currently being assessed by the City of London Police’s National Fraud Intelligence Bureau after being reported to Action Fraud.

The business' page on review site Yell meanwhile claims it has since closed down, while its Facebook page appears to have disappeared.

A spokeswoman for Action Fraud confirmed it received a report on December 21, but couldn't provide further comment due to it being an active investigation.

The spokeswoman said: "The reports taken by Action Fraud are sent to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) which is run by the City of London Police. Here, reports are analysed for possible lines of enquiry and immediate disruption opportunities.

"Neither Action Fraud nor NFIB have investigative powers."
