According to school officials, the two books temporarily removed from the shelves by the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) library will be restored to their original state.

Maia Kobabe's "Gender Queer: Memoirs" and Jonathan Eveson's "Grass Boys" were removed from the shelves in September due to parent complaints, prompting the school district to conduct a two-month review. The formal challenge claims that both books examine the structure of sexual and gender identity, are clear, and mention pedophilia.

The FCPS convened two committees composed of school administrators, librarians, parents, and students to determine whether books should be kept in the school. It was unanimously decided to keep these two books.

"This decision reaffirms FCPS's continuing commitment to provide diverse reading materials that reflect our student population, so that every child has the opportunity to see his own reflection in literary figures," FCPS said in a statement. "Both reviews have concluded that these books are valuable in reaching the potential of marginalized youth, who may have difficulty finding relevant literary figures that reflect their personal journeys."

"Lawn Boys" used to be in 11 FCPS high schools, and "Gender Queer" in 7 schools. The review committee found that the book neither described nor described pedophilia.

"I am satisfied that these books were selected in accordance with FCPS regulations and are suitable for inclusion in libraries serving high school students," said Noel Klimenko, Assistant Director of Teaching Services. "For students who may have difficulty finding related stories, the value of these two books is beyond their pages."

In October, the peaceful protest outside the school board meeting made parents oppose the student alliance called the "Pride Liberation Project" (PLP), which issued a letter with more than 400 signatures to the school board, asking them to refuse Attack of pediatrics.

"I saw an absolutely disgusting porn page. And I can't believe it was in school," FCPS parent Maria Shewell said at the rally. "This is purely pornographic content. I don't care what the theme or genre of the book is, whether it is heterosexual or homosexual."

"In our English reading, they don't blink at the rape scene, they only care if it is queer," a PLP member responded.

A similar reversal took place in Spotsilvania County. Less than a week later, the school board decided to ban books deemed "extremely pornographic" in the school library to be revoked; the committee's lawyers stated that the decision was unconstitutional. Two school board members even advocated the burning of these books, and one member called them "disgusting."

A librarian said: "I can't believe that I will stand here tonight for the school board meeting in the United States in 2021 and have to talk about the ban on school textbooks. This whole concept is ridiculous."
